Phuket Vegetarian Festival
Parading temple deities around town amid a shower of firecrackers to chase away the hungry spirits who congregate around the intersections once a year is not a bad idea, really.

newschoolbicyclesgalore.jpg
An anonymous donor decided that every school child in the small town of Pranburi, Thailand (just South of Hua Hin) should have a bicycle. I just happened to drive by at the right moment. The children were told to stay at home that morning and come to school at noon. The bikes were identical . . . except that each had a child's name on it! I should have stayed to see the mayhem when the hundreds of children each sought out their name! I hope it wasn't 'musical bicycles"!

Oops!
It is no fun to be the new (iin 2004) Thai Prime Minister and look out the window of the VIP Departure Lounge to see your plane burst into flames. No fun at all!

Ouch!
At the Phuket Vegetarian Festival each year there seems to be developing a "I can put something bigger than you can through my cheek" contest between the brave young spiritual followers. I think this motorcycle pipe and muffler added a very contemporary twist to the old fashioned habit of merely thrusting swords through our cheeks, don't you?

Double Ouch!
